Spend a pleasant day among the waves of Balaton!
We leave the capital by bus to the western direction and after an hour driving we reach the largest sweet water lake in Middle-Europe, called Balaton. It is 76 kilometres long and from 1.5 to 14 kilometres wide. The northern part of it is a hilly landscape while the southern coast is totally flat. This is the most popular holiday area in Hungary.
Our first stop is at Balatonfüred, and we will travel to Tihany from here by sailing boat.
You may not only sunbathe and have a rest on the sailing boat but you may learn the bases of the sailing. We run out with a skilled captain, he will accept the helping of hard-working mannschafts. First time we manoeuvre carefully from the harbour and we pull the sails up. The wind catches the sails and the boat slides swiftly on the water of the lake. There will be peace and silence surround while you take delight in an amazing sight
About one hour later we will reach the Peninsula of Tihany, situated on the northern shore. We visit the famous Benedictine abbey and the church that was founded in 1055 by Hungarian King András I. Here you can see the copy of the foundation document, which was the very first, written in Hungarian language.
After a short walk we take you to a restaurant where we have delicious lunch accompanied by wine.
In your free time you can buy some Hungarian souvenirs and handicrafts in the street of the craftsmen and you can take a walk to the panoramic terrace, where you can take some amazing photos of Lake Balaton.
In the afternoon we will travel back to Balatonfüred by sailing boat again.
On the famous Tagore Promenade we take a walk and enjoy „Hungarian maritime – feeling” underneath Sycamore trees.
Finally we return to Budapest in the evening.
