Last autumn many friends told me about a funny phenomenon seeing from the Danube bank: "I was driving on the "rakpart" (the road along the river side) and I see a yellow bus floating in the Danube" I heard this story many times. It was that time when RiverRide, the amphibious sight-seeing bus was introduced in Budapest.
Yes, I had to try it. I had to meet the "smiley" bus (there is a wide beam on the front side) hybridized with a Maltese ship.
The itinerary: Departing from the Roosevelt square it shows the most famous sights of Pest side (approx. 1 hour) as a normal tourist bus on land. Somewhere at the north part of Margaret-Island reaches the splashing point, floats in the river till Chain Bridge and back to the splashing point, along the river bank till the departure point.During the tour you get guiding in English and German.
I saw these scenes of Budapest many times, but the feeling of being on these funny creature, like a rock-star - locals and tourist waving and staring at the vehicle, because people were not used to it. And when you get used to the idea that you're sitting on a bus, suddenly it dives in to the river. Raising your adrenalin Strauss' 'Thus Spoke Zarathrusta' is the splash tune. The frightening was only for a moment, when I saw the waves 30 centimeters below the window, it was funny.
Try it now and tell me your first splashing into the Danube with a bus. You can book it here: RiverRide
